That day it rained and other stories is a beautiful collection of twenty-two short stories written by Rimli Bhattacharya. Though the stories are fiction, I would say they are inspired by real lives. You might find these stories around you in everyday life.

Once started, it is hard to put down the book as the narration style is very gripping, and I am sure you would relate to certain parts. The stories are full of nostalgia, memories, and unexpected events that happen in people’s lives. The stories revolve around the women’s lives and the hardships they have to face in different stages. The stories focus on emotional traumas, healing, and mental well-being. Sometimes being strong is the way to get out of certain situations. At certain points, the stories will give you goosebumps at others you might gently smile. The book shows us the dark side of life that the sun can not shine all the time, and not everyone is privileged enough to have a loving family and support. For example, in the story, full circle, the barbaric nature of humans is shown, and in another story, the Facebook man, the hospital’s negligence is highlighted.

The book gives a subliminal message that it is vital to have a strong support system to help navigate the hard times. After reading the book, you might realize how privileged you are to have strong ties with your family and friends who can help you sail through troubled waters. Without adding any spoilers, I would definitely recommend this anthology of short stories.
